I received a communication from Alvin Mirabal of Puerto Rico
<alfa011@prtc.net> in which he states:
> I am looking also for an alternative battery for the
>QT which used a PX-30 (mercury) battery, no longer available.
I have contacted
>a battery manufacturer that gave me an idea which I am waiting
more inf.

---------------my reply--------------
I received the following info from Bernard Delgado < delgado@nytimes.com
(Bernard Delgado)> in answer to a question I posed:
>>Is there a "work-a-round" for the battery problem
in the MGS and the QT?
>>>For the QT you need to wedge in 2 small 1.5 batteries
to equal the 3volt .
>>>Try some model railroad brass to make the wedges. For
the MGS, there are
>>>zinc oxide replacemnts. Or just use a 1.5 battery &
hope for the best. The
>>>meter may be off, so just reset the ASA at a more appropriate
setting. The
>>>film latitude should cover this as well.
I've also seen a battery at the local mega department store and
I think I
also saw it at Radio Shack that is the same size as two 1.5 v MS76
batteries stood together end to end which is 3 volts and may work
on the 16
QT.
