Subject: Minox IIIs Speed Dial variations

Missing Dot on Minox A model

Minoxes with mechanical shutter ( Riga, A, B, BL ) used
a speed dial to set shutter speed, there are two different
variants of mechanic shutter speed dial.

A) Riga Minox style speed dial

Riga Minox had no * mark betwwen B and 2.

B) Minox B style speed dial

On Minox B model there is a * betwwen B and 2 ( indicating
a 1 sec exposure time requirement)

It is interesting to note that Minox IIIs had two different
style speed dial.

One variant of Minox IIIs had Riga style speed dial (without * )
A seccond variant of Minox IIIs had Minox B style dial --
with a * between B and 2

The * between B and Z makes sense only on Minox B, as it
has a coupled light meter, when rotate the speed dial to match
the needle, and the speed end up at this dot '*' it indicates
a 1 second exposure is required ( by must be set by using B ).

For Minox A there is no meter, and the shutter does not
set 1 second speed, so naturally there should not be
a * on the speed dial

I am quite surprised to find that some Minox A does come
with a '*' !

I believe Minox IIIs with the '*' between B and 2 must
shared the speed dial part with Model B, hence must be post 1958
production, or even a little bit latter, until the old Riga
style dial (without "*" ) ran out.

( In Hubert Heckmann's book, his picture of light alloy Minox A all
has
this dot. )

This tiny '*' 'variation' seems missed by Hubert Heckmann.
