Heico Permawash recommends one (1) minute each of FIRST wash,
Permawash, FINAL wash. I usually run water into the 250cc tank with
my
"pill bottle" drum for 3 minutes, then Permawash for 3
min, then final
wash for 3 min. This coupled with a 1 minute pre-soak, 5-6 min
development and, 1 min in Photo Flo, gives a total "wet"
time of 16-17
minutes. I don't know why I use the extra 2 minutes in each step
of the
wash cycle, I just have for years. I have to admit that I have bottles
for all of these solutions, on which I listed the mixing and use
directions (I HATE to keep looking things up), probably in the '70s.
I
ran the archival tests about 3 years ago and saw no need to change
anything. The only change I have made in recent years is the
construction of an archival print washer and modification of my
final
print wash schedule.
IF I were just starting, I would probably use Ilford chemicals
and
directions for fixing and washing both film AND paper. They were,
to my
knowledge, the ones who first proposed using "film strength"
fixer to
shorten print fixing time, hence washing time.
